That Voice

It's louder than any put-down, no matter how threatening or violent. And it's yours...

Nothing is more dangerous than being absent from your own story. Absent because you're either nowhere to be found or because your character portrayal is a total lie. It isn't your reality, it's someone else's; but after a while their voice starts to sound just like yours. But it isn't yours. Taking it back is what reclamation is all about.

Nadine is the Founder of Sacred Fire Productions, a non-profit Aboriginal Arts Organization, and also launched the Ashukan Cultural Space, a cultural centre in Montreal's Old Port dedicated to the development of Aboriginal arts and culture. She has a BFA, an MA and over 25 years of business experience in management, community development and governance.
